Segment
One.
Judge
Joseph says he
enjoys relaxing with
Pet Fish Talk, as he
does weekly partial
water changes in his
aquariums. Tom
reminds the judge to
change 20% of the
water in each
aquarium twice a
week.
Rod from Elk Grove,
California, calls
and says he wants to
mix his Clown
Loaches with his
Mbuna Cichlid in his
450-gallon aquarium,
after he moves his
Koi to a pond. Tom
and Nevin reminisce
about moving a very
heavy 110-gallon
aquarium long ago.
Vicky from West
Virginia and admits
to being the
sister-in-law of Jim
from West Virginia.
Vicky gives a
valuable tip on
using a turkey
baster to start the
siphon in her gravel
washer.
Nevin reads a
testimonial from
Carl in Oregon about
using Algone to
clear the water in
his new aquariums.
Nevin explains the
phrase "Cycling a
New Aquarium".
Olivia from
Pennsylvania calls
and says she and her
mom plan to get two
large aquariums and
wants to add some
Tetras. We finally
recommend some Congo
Tetras, like the one
shown below.
Here is
a beautiful
male Congo
Tetra, which
would do very
well living in
a school of
six or more
Congo Tetras
in one of the
big aquariums
that Olivia
and her mom
may get soon.
Segment
Two.
Olivia
calls back and we
continue to talk
with her about the
two big aquariums
she and her mom plan
to get.
Greg says he's a new
listener to Pet Fish
Talk and is
fascinated by Blue
Lobsters. Would Tom
and Nevin recommend
starting with one
Blue Lobster?
Chris asks how long
will it take for his
Red Claw Crab's
exoskeleton to
harden, after he
exits his old
exoskeleton?
Hank from
Pennsylvania calls
and tells us that
his Pink Cory
Catfish laid eggs
that stuck to the
glass and plastic
plants in his
aquarium. Hank says
his Amano Shrimp
also has babies! Tom
admits to being
jealous. But Hank
says the Baby Shrimp
got sucked into the
filter. So we gave
Hank some ideas
about how to keep
babies from being
sucked into power
filters.
Here is
a diagram of
the J-shaped
tube that
sucks up water
from near the
bottom of an
aquarium and
empties that
water into the
filter near
the top of the
aquarium.
To prevent
fish from
being sucked
into the
filter there
is a strainer,
shown here
detached and
below the
tube. But the
small holes in
the strainer
are usually
big enough to
allow baby
fish to get
through the
strainer and
into the
filter. Tom
and Nevin
explain how to
cover the
strainer and
prevent baby
fish from
entering the
tube.
Aaron from Ohio
calls and says
today's Pet Fish
Talk show is coming
in good on his
computer. Aaron says
one of his Platies
and one Molly died
last week, but the
rest of his fish
look good. Tom says
Platies and Mollies
do best in a group
with at least 3
males and about
twice as many
females of their
species. Aaron also
says he lucked-out
and found 4 Siamese
Algae Eaters in his
local pet store.
Segment
Three.
Cody
says her mother got
four Oscars, and two
of them are
quarrelling, and
Cody wonders if the
Oscars are getting
ready to spawn.

here for more
about Oscar Fish.
Aaron calls back and
says he's changed
his mind and has
decided to set up
his 20-gallon
aquarium. He'd like
to put a Crayfish in
it, but he can find
any for sale now.
Click
here for more
about Crayfish.
Aaron also asks
about how many fish
can he keep in his
aquariums. Tom says
it is best to learn
how to test your
water. Click here
for more about
testing aquarium
water.
Melissa in Kent, PA,
says she can't hear
Pet Fish Talk on the
Windows Media Player
(WMP) anymore. Tom
says she should
uninstall the WMP,
then reinstall it.
This usually solves
the problem.
Marty from Las Vegas
calls and says Pet
Fish Talk is coming
in great over the
internet on his
computer. Marty
wants to install a
beautiful background
in his very tall
75-gallon
half-hexagon
aquarium. We
recommend that Marty
contact ATM. Click
here to go their
web site now. Or
call ATM at 1-877-826-5286.
Melissa says, "Hey
this is Melissa
again. I found out I
had a virus in my
media player, so I
uninstalled it and
then reinstalled
it."
Evan from Colorado
calls and says he
got a new Mystery
Snail that he will
talk about in the
next segment of Pet
Fish Talk.
Segment
Four.
Evan
says his new Mystery
Snail moves around
more and is more
interesting than his
other Mystery Snail
that is kind of
lazy. One of Evan's
female Mollies
released 23 baby
Mollies. Evan give
lots of interesting
comments about his
fish and snails.
Ronnie from Missouri
calls and talks
about keeping and
breeding Bettas
including Plaket
Betta Fish, that he
strongly recommends
to beginners,
because the Plaket
Bettas are hardier
than regular
long-fin Bettas.
Ronnie also
recommends
quarantining new
Betta Fish for two
or three weeks
before you mix them
with your other
fish. We talk about
how to quarantine
new fish. Ronnie
also put a UV-light
to greatly reduce
the number of
pathogen in the
water that is
recirculating in his
system. Click

pictures of Ronnie's
equipment.
