Hi, Tom and Nevin!
Just wanted to let you
know that I submitted the
following letter to The
Discovery Channel/Animal
Planet:
My favorite Internet
personalities are the
fishkeepers, Tom + Nevin
Bailey on petfishtalk.com.
They have an Internet
radio show and yesterday,
they helped me set up my
new fish tank. You should
check them out for a
possible TV show - what a
couple of great
personalities! Freshwater
fishkeeping is *extremely*
popular with millions of
fans, and we need a show
about it on Animal
Planet.
Tom + Nevin have
been in the tropical fish
business since they were
children, and they have
been helping callers to
their show for years.
They have great stuff on
their website (lectures by
scientists, information,
pictures...). Most of
all, they are unique and
*entertaining.* If Animal
Planet does not "discover"
:) Tom and Nevin soon,
someone else will!
Thanks for great
programming!

Hello Mary. Thank you for writing to
The Discovery Channel, and for your
complimentary comments. If Animal Planet
drafts the Bailey Brothers, they will
serve and do their best.

Tom + Nevin, the short story
behind my writing to Animal
Planet about you guys is, I
am the biggest complainer in
my house about "two hundred
channels and nothing to
watch" on TV.
So I tried to think of
things that I *would* like
to watch. If you guys had a
TV show, I would not miss an
episode. Also, there are so
many tropical fish keepers
all over the world, we NEED
a show.
The best shows on the
Discovery Channel (in my
opinion) feature a couple of
guys doing what they are
good at: i.e. Mythbusters +
American Chopper. It's a
format that works really
well.
Tom + Nevin, if you get a
spare 30 secs or so on your
radio show, could you put
out a request, on my behalf,
for any listeners who would
not mind going to the
Discovery Channel website
and submitting a suggestion
for a petfishtalk.com TV
show?
The TV industry can be very
responsive to viewer
feedback, and I'm sure I'm
not the only petfishtalk.com
fan who would like to enjoy
your show on TV. As TV
consumers, we *can* have a
say in what we watch!
Best wishes,
Mary Birch
Reply. Hello
again Mary. We think you are right about
TV. Thanks again for your efforts to help
grow Pet Fish Talk.
Tom and Nevin, I have just
been listening to you advising
Tim about moving his fish. For
longer journeys and in cold
weather you have suggested
using freezer boxes and/or
polystyrene boxes to help keep
the fish warm during transit.
My local fish shop is about 3
miles away from my house and I
walk there and back most
fridays after work.
When I go there I always make
sure to carry a thermal gel
pack with me to help keep any
fish warm on the walk home.
These packs contain a special
gel and a metail disk. When
the metail disk is pressed the
gel begins to harden and the
pack will produce heat for
about 4 hours.Once exhausted,
the packs can be recharged by
soaking them in boiling water
and then used again on the
following trip if needed.
Reply. Thanks Stephen. These gel
packs are interesting and useful. I
searched Google.com for "Hot Gel
Handwarmers" and found many links.
Interestingly, many in the U.K. Maybe
their hands get colder over there.
I found some "Gel Hot Packs" like the ones
we use in our fish hatchery for a good
price at
