Fish in the News. "Georgia Aquarium Becomes Biggest Fish in a Big Pond. The Georgia Aquarium — which opens to annual pass holders Monday and to the general public Wednesday — features the largest single tank in the world and four additional water exhibits that together will hold more than 120,000 fish in 8 million gallons of water. It will showcase 500 species, and is the first aquarium outside Asia to display whale sharks, the biggest fish in the world." Click here to read the entire story.
The Georgia Aquarium opens this week in Atlanta, Georgia, with more than 120,000 fish in 8 million gallons of water.
More Fishy News. "Manta rays return to Keauhou with reopening of resort. Manta rays are among the largest fish in the ocean. They can grow to have wingspans of more than 20 feet and weigh up to 3,000 pounds. Despite their size, they are graceful creatures, soaring through the water like massive birds in flight." My Angelfish
Leans. "I
recently purchased
an Angelfish that is
about the size of a
half dollar. It is a
beautifil fish to
watch and is very
graceful, but it
sometimes leans. The
color is great and
it's fins are fully
out, what could be
causing this? Thank
you, Tyler M."
My Angelfish Fry
All Died. "Hi,
Recently my angel
fish laid eggs on
the filter pump
pipe. After a day I
removed it and
placed it in a
smaller tank with
water from the same
Parents aquarium. I
saw the fry hatch
but they were all
lying to their side.
Now after 2 days
they have all died.
Can you let me know
as to what
precautions I must
take. Thanks Krish"
More
Angelfish
Trouble. "I
have a 30 gallon
tank with 2
angels, 5
tetras, 2
corycats and 1
pleco. I had 3
angels but one I
found close to
death on the
bottom of the
tank a couple
mornings ago. I
have since done
a couple partial
water changes
but now my
marble angel is
clamping one of
his fins
sometimes and
seems to be
hunting out
hiding spots by
himself. What
do you
recommend? I
also have a
bio-wheel
filter. It's a
Penguin 125 and
I wanted to make
sure it was
large enough for
my tank. I had
a smaller tank
before and just
now gave thought
to whether this
filter was large
enough and it
doesn't tell me
in the manual.
Thanks for your
help TLM" Click

Are Veggies Good for
Goldfish? "I
have a Black Moor,
Shubunkin &
Calico Ryukin in a
55 gal tank. They
are all about 4-5
inches. My question
is in regards to
supplementing their
normal feedings
(twice/day no more
than 10 minutes)
with other items. It
has been suggested
that in between
feedings I give them
pieces of oranges or
squash or kale
leaves. What
are your thoughts on
this? Thanks, Dave"
Cloudy Aquarium

When the Power
Goes Off! "I
have been reading
your information
about bio-wheels. I
decided to get one
and continued to
research. I've been
told by several well
respected aquarists
that bio-wheels have
1 major disadvantage
over under gravel
filters. If the
power goes out, the
bacteria in the
gravel will survive
much longer staying
wet and the oxygen
in the water will
last a significant
amount of time, but
if a bio-wheel
losses power, it
will dry out and the
bacteria will die in
about 2 hours
essential cycling my
tank. I realize if
I'm home I can put
the wheel in the
tank to keep it wet
but if I'm not home
I will be in
trouble. I was
planning on removing
my UGF as I agree
with the logic in
your articles but
now I'm not sure. Do
you have any
comments? Have you
heard of power going
out and how long the
bacteria have lived?

Feeding
Plecostomus.
"I have a
question. I
recently bought
a Pleco (sucker
fish thing), and
was recommended
to feed then an
algae disc in
the
evenings. However,
I never see it
eating on the
disc, just
sucking on the
aquarium
walls. Even
floating fish
flakes don't
seem to interest
it. I just want
to make sure
that it is going
to get the
proper nutrition
it needs. Any
help is greatly
appreciated
... I would be
very
grateful. By the
way, I LOVE your
website. I have
used it 10X's
more than any

Suspicious
Black Sand.
"Hi there! I
have a couple
questions that I
hope you can
help me out
with I went from
a 10 gallon to a
20 gallon I
switch all water
and gravel
plants, etc.,
over at the same
time. They are
doing
great. that was
about 2 weeks
ago I added some
Black sand to
the tank for a
different look
and the water is
so cloudy now. I
did wash it
first I am just
worried now that
this gravel will
keep the water
cloudy. Any
thoughts? Also I
am wanting to
add some new
fish. I only
have about 6
inches of fish
right now. What
can I add to a
fresh water tank
for some color?
Thanks so Much,
Kim G., Plano
