Segment One.  Fish in the News. Each week the Bailey Brothers start the Pet Fish Talk Show with some fun and interesting stories about fish in the news.   "Walking Shark" Found Off Indonesia. Scientists say they have found two types of shark, plus exotic "flasher" fish, and corals among 52 new species in seas off Indonesia, confirming that the Western Pacific Ocean is the richest marine habitat on earth. "We feel very confident that this is the epicenter of marine biodiversity" in the world, said Mark Erdmann, a US scientist at Conservation International, who led two surveys this year. Scientists found 24 new species of fish, including two types of epaulette shark, slim and spotty growing up to about 1.2 meters long. Someday, Ill be able to read the text that accompanies the exhibits. But on my family's first visit to the aquarium after its $25 million expansion, I was like the bucket in a fire line, tugged from one hand to another as my 4-year-old and 8-year-old dashed to each new exhibit, literally pulling me along. You could hardly blame them. They've waited 2-1/2 years, while the museum was closed for the massive renovation, to visit what has always been a perennial summer stop. Worth the wait? Most definitely. Its three times larger, with 93,000 square feet and 40 new exhibits that showcase the states diverse water habitats, from mountains to sea. Chemists in Japan have found that brown seaweed, a flavor component used in many Asian soups and salads, contains a compound that appears in animal studies to promote weight loss by reducing the accumulation of fat. Spenser C. sent us an email saying, "Here's a pretty interesting piece of news I thought you  might like.. :) " A Blood Parrot fish gets his first taste of life on land, wheeling around in a luxurious fishbowl-on-wheels. Here's how it works: a camera mounted above the tank captures a stream of images. This information is worked over by the onboard computer. Finally, the direction of the robots motion is determined by the movements of the fish, and the wheels move in that direction! See the picture above.
