Fish in
the News.
Each week
the Bailey
Brothers
start the
Pet Fish
Talk Show
with some
fun and
interesting
stories
about fish
in the news.
These pictures show three of the many types of crabs collected during a recent trip to the French Frigate Shoals, Hawaii. Nearly everyone has an idea of what a crab looks like. But actually, crabs come in a staggering variety of sizes, shapes and colors, making it hard at times to define what a crab really is.
Australian
Fossil Fish
Rewrites
Land Animal
Evolution.
A fossil fish discovered in the West Australian Kimberley has been identified as the missing clue in vertebrate evolution, rewriting a century-old theory on how the first land animals evolved. The fossil skeleton shows the fish's skull had large holes for breathing through the top of the head but importantly also had muscular front fins with a well-formed humerus, ulna and radius - the same bones are found in the human arm. Lyndhurst,
New Jersey
-- From
a maintenance
standpoint,
11-year-old
Sabrina
Coletti
probably
has close
to the perfect
pet. Stripey,
an angel
fish with
stripes,
needs no
late-night
walks, pooper
scoopers
or litter
boxes --
just an
occasional
feeding
and cleansing
of its tank.
There are
no barks,
chirps,
meows or
the pitter
patter of
paws through
the living
room. Sabrina's
fish was
one of 300
entries
on display
Saturday
at a fresh-water
fish show
sponsored
by the New
Jersey Aquarium
Society
and held
at the Meadowlands
Environmental
Center.
The event,
which included
a variety
of forums
and seminars,
was a chance
for novice
fish owners
as well
as professional
breeders
to network
and exchange
ideas about
their love.

True Crabs
of French
Frigate
Shoals.
A three-week
scientific
expedition
to French
Frigate
Shoals in
the Northwestern
Hawaiian
Islands
Marine National
Monument
returned
to Honolulu
on Sunday,
October
29, 2006,
with the
discovery
of many
new species
and a better
understanding
of marine
biodiversity
in the Hawaiian
Archipelago.
For example,
it
is estimated
that there
are 5,000
different
kinds (species)
of crabs
in the world,
which is
about a
third of
all known
decapods.
Only about
200 different
species
of crabs
have been
reported
from Hawaiian
waters,
but we are
adding to
that number
every day.

Here are three pictures from David and Zsofia, who live in Hungary and telephone during this Pet Fish Talk Show to ask questions about how to combine two smaller aquariums into the bigger aquarium, which you can see in these pictures.
A few
days
after
posting
these
pictures,
another
email
arrived
from
Hungary,
which
said, "WOW!
Thank
you! We
show
everyone
here
that we
are on a

America!
This is
really
cool!
Thanks

help and
input
and in

They all
