stories
about
fish in

A Snakehead, like this one, has bitten twenty people in a pet store in
Guangzhou's Liwan District in China. Snakeheads are actually fish that are sometimes kept in aquariums.
How To
Mend A
Broken
Heart.
Jay R.
from PA
sent us
this
email, "Hi
Tom and
Nevin,
It was
neat to
hear
your
discussion
of the
Tilapia
Farm in
Brooklyn
story I
sent a
few
weeks
ago. I'd
like to
try and
call the
show
sometime,
but I'm
usually
at work
while
you're
live.
Here's
another
interesting
story i
found
that
shows
once
again
all the
interesting
things
scientists
are
learning
from
Zebra
Danios.
"Zebrafish
can
survive
pretty
massive
injury
to the
heart--the
loss of
about a
quarter
of their
ventricle,"
said
Kenneth
Poss of
Duke
University
Medical
Center.
The
ventricle,
which
receives
blood
and then
pumps it
back out
to the
body, is
one of
two
chambers
that
make up
the fish
heart.
"This
study
gets at
some of
the
important
mechanistic
questions
about
how they
rebuild
the
heart,
and some
of the
key
factors
that
contribute."

Charles
Laidley
of the
Oceanic
Institute
says
he's
"pretty
optimistic"
because
of
developments
in
aquaculture.
"There
is
general
agreement
that the
world's
fisheries,
if
nothing
else,
are
maxed
out."
said Laidley,

of OI's

A
30-centimetre

that
likes
biting
people
is
drawing
crowds
to a pet

The pet

surnamed
Zhang
had put
a
warning
on the

telling
visitors
to
beware
of the

It is

more

people
had been
