Unclear
Why Whale
Shark Died.
A necropsy
of one of
the Georgia
Aquarium's
prized whale
sharks did

any obvious
causes of
death, but
the investigation
is continuing
and could
take months,
aquarium
officials
said.
Ralph,
one of four
whale sharks
at the 1-year-old
aquarium,
died Thursday
night. It
was the
second death
of a popular
exhibit
at the aquarium
in 10 days.

In Denver
the Downtown
Aquarium
Leaks for
Nine Months.
Someone leaked the news that the Downtown Aquarium is leaking 3,000 gallons of saltwater a day - a little more than two gallons a minute - enough to get the attention of state health regulators Tuesday. It appears that the aquarium at 700 Water Street sprung a leak about nine months ago, but only now have aquarium officials lined up a repair crew slated to start work on the problem this weekend. Breeding
Killifish
in a Puddle
on the Floor.
Mike from
Missouri
sends a
link to
a story
... in Jim's
basement
fishroom
I kept looking
at this
rack of
tanks ...
when something
caught my
eye - movement
from down
below. Now,
Jim uses
a continuous
flow recirculation
system and
um, well,
err, it
leaks a
bit. There
was a puddle
of water
pooled up
in that
particular
corner of
his basement,
a triangle
of water
about a
foot and
a half square
and roughly
a qurter
inch or
5mm deep
... I found
two fish.
"Uh, Jim,
there's
fish on
your floor".
"Oh, what
do they
look like".
"Rivulus".
"Figgers.
Ok, just
leave them
there".
Ooooook,
they're
your fish.
Six months
later I'm
back looking
around again.
Just for
a joke I
go look
at the puddle.
I do not
see the
two small
fish. No,
I see two
almost three
inch long
fish and
maybe 40
fry. The
water barely
covered
half the
height of
the adults
body. "Uh,
Jim there's
a bunch
of fish
down here".
"Yeah I
know. They
do better
there than
in my tanks".
