... I've decided to send stories every two weeks. I hope you enjoy them! Jourdan Cameron P.S. Remember that guppy birth I told you about? Welll, it turns out that a few days later, a second female gave birth!
Special thanks, as usual, to Jourdan in Connecticut for emailing us this link.
Callers during this Show
Robert in
New Jersey
calls and talks
about his
new baby
Discus fish
and about
his unusual
breeding
trio of one
male and two
female Angel
Fish.
Roshan
from Katy,
Texas,
calls and
says he
bought an
18" long
30-watt
fluorescent
blub for his
20-gallon
planted
aquarium,
but his
plants still
look weak.
Roshan also
asks about
Mikrogeophagus
ramirezi,
which are a
species of
Dwarf
Cichlids,
that are
often called
Rams.
Evan from Colorado
calls and
Tom asks him
if he has
any comments
about
aquarium
lights that
might help
Roshan. Evan
also talks
about his
new Serpae
Tetras.
Lastly, Evan says he
can't listen
to the Live
Pet Fish
Talk show in
iTunes on
his new Mac
computer, but he can
download the
archived
shows. Does
anyone know
how to help
Evan listen
to the live
show on his
iMac?
Brian in
Roseville,
California,
sent us an
email.
Hi Tom and
Nevin, Sorry
to hear that
Evan still
can't listen
to the live
show. As you
discovered,
iTunes works
for the
podcast, but
is not the
recommended
application
to use
listen to
the live
show.
Windows
Media Player
Left click
on Copy
Shortcut.
Open the
Windows
Media
Player. (It's
probably in
your dock.)
Left click
on File,
then left
click on
Open URL.
Paste the
copied URL
and click
OK. If that
doesn't
work, try
the MMS feed
for the show
instead of
the asx file
from above.
I've
determined
that it is:
(Tom and
Nevin,
please
correct this
if it isn't
right!)
that should
work in VLC,
Windows
Media
Player, and
in iTunes.
To get it to
work in
iTunes,
follow these
steps
(Flip4Mac
required):
Make sure
the Flip4Mac
plug-in is
installed --
this will
allow you to
play the
streaming
.mms URL in
QuickTime.
Open
QuickTime
Player, then
use File:
Open URL (or
just hit
Command-U).
Type in your
URL --
mms://67.19.105.106:8080/fishtalk2
(Pet Fish
Talk), then
click OK.
The URL will
take a while
to open; be
patient, let
it buffer as
needed. Save
the stream
as a .mov
file using
File: Save
As, etc.
Just save it
to your
Desktop as
an ordinary
.mov file;
name it as
you'd like.
Drag the .mov
file you
just created
into your
iTunes
Library.
Play the
movie file
in iTunes.
It will
again take
some time to
buffer and
stream, and
it will not
show up in
iTunes as a
streaming
radio URL,
but it will
play as one.
I would test
these steps
out, except
that it is
Tuesday, and
I don't
normally
have access
to my mac
from 1:00 to
3:00 on
Wednesday to
verify it.

Hi Brian,
thank you
for your
email and
for the
helpful
details
about how to
listen to
PFT live on
a Mac. We
should have
remembered
to
recommended
that Evan
try WMP!!
Thanks for
reminding us
and for all
the other
details. By
the way here
is another
link to the
download for
WMP for the
Macs with
OSX, like
Evan's.
