From Tom's Aquarium
Socolofi Female Mouthbrooding Fry
In the video, shown above, you can see a female Pseudotropheus socolofi, which is sometimes called a Pindani. She spawned 2 or 3 weeks ago and is mouthbrooding her fry. Tom and Nevin will talk about her during the show. You are welcome to call during any show and ask question about her or call and talk about your fish.

More from Tom's Aquarium
Three Beacon Plecostomus L091
In the video, shown above, you can see Tom's catfish that lives in an aquarium with about 20 Mbuna Cichlids. This catfish was called L091 for a while, before it was given the scientific name Leporacanthicus triactis. The catfish in the genus Leporacanthicus are sometimes called Vampire Plecos, because they have long front teeth. But they use these teeth to eat snails and freshwater sponges not to suck blood! In this video you can see this catfish wave its tail at an Mbuna. The top edge of its tail is covered with spikes and looks like an effective weapon, as shown below. This fish hides in the same ceramic ornament most of the day and rare comes out. You are welcome to call during any show and ask question about this fish or call and talk about your fish.
The previous mystery fish, shown in the Listening Guide for show 312, was The Mangrove Cichlid, which has the scientific name Tilapia mariae. Click here to see the Listening Guide for show 312. Click here to learn more about Tilapia mariae. Thanks for playing. Now here's this weeks fish, shown below. It is a gentle, shy South American Cichlid, and can be found in Guyana, in the Orinoco.
Special thanks, as usual, to Jourdan in Connecticut for emailing us these links and the picture of this week's mystery fish.
