The New King in Tom's Mbuna Aquarium
Yikes !! These pictures show a beautiful young male Mbuna Cichlid, living in Tom's Mbuna Aquarium. This fish a Labeotropheus trewavasae, one of the many species of Mbuna Cichlids that live among the rocks along the shores of Lake Malawi in East Africa. This fish is now about 4" long, very lean, moving up in dominance, and increasing in color. His mouth, which you can see clearly in the picture just above, is quite different from most other Mbuna species. Tom and Nevin will probably talk about him during the next Pet Fish Talk Show. As always you are invited to call and talk about fish.
EcoBio-Blocks to the Rescue !!
Here are some of Tom's Mbuna babies. They're a few weeks old and enjoying a swim through a green EcoBio-Block. This aquarium was dark green a week ago, which may have been caused by cyanobacteria. Click here to see the aquarium then. A few days ago Tom put the EcoBio-Block in the aquarium. It probably took a couple of days for the beneficial bacteria in this EcoBio-Block to become biologically active, and in a couple more days the cyanobacteria were gone, the water was clear, and Tom had a big smile. Tom and Nevin talk about this aquarium adventure during this show. EcoBio-Blocks are available from ONEdersave, which sponsors Pet Fish Talk. Click here to learn more about their products.

Dolphins,

Bonnie
from Iowa
calls and
says she
took all the
water out of
the
150-gaalon

sunroom,
then rinsed
the pond out
well, filled
it with tap
water, and
added water
conditioner.
It's been a
week now and
the pond
still has
ammonia that
can be
measured by
the test
kit. What do
do next?
Nevin
says the
denitrifier,
which he
recently
built, is
just
beginning to
reduce the
nitrate in
the water in
a system
with
11-aquariums
and about
800 to
1000-gallons
of
freshwater.
Ronnie

says he
found some
really nice
Black
Sailfin

He gives
some hints
about
hatching and
growing
brine shrimp
to feed to
fish.
Finally, Tom
and Nevin
offer to
send him a
free sample
of the
premium
