Waking-up for Breakfast
The video, just above, shows Tom's 29-gallon aquarium with Big Bob an adult male Ps. Maylandia greshakei and about 20 to 30 smaller OB Mbunas. The lights in the aquarium went on and these fish started to wake up, and after a minute or two they begin to eat breakfast. The décor in this aquarium is a 15-pack of Cichlid Stones, which help create an ideal environment for Mbuna Cichlids, like these. Click here for more about Cichlid Stones.
Fish in the News from Robert in New Jersey
Hi Tom & Nevin, Here is this weeks fish in the news Hopefully I will have better luck getting in to talk about planted tanks and co2 than last week. Your Friend, Robert in NJ.
Some Fish ‘Learn’ Like Humans.
"These fish are obviously not at all closely related to humans, yet they have this human ability to only copy when the pay off is better than their own." http://www.redorbit.com/ ... fish_learn_like_humans/
There's Plenty More Fish in the Sea ... Well, Maybe Not.
According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium website: Our new iPhone application brings the latest Seafood Watch recommendations directly to your iPhone or iPod touch. Now you can make sustainable seafood choices quickly and easily--whether you're eating at your favorite restaurant or shopping for dinner. And at a time when the world's oceans are severely overfished, your seafood choices make a big difference. http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/ ... plenty_more_fish_in_the.php
As usual big special thanks to Robert in NJ for sending us this avalanche of links to fish in the news.
Male Black Lace Angelfish
This young male Angel may look like a Black Angel in this picture, but he has those long lighter colored pelvic fins, and when seen next to a Black Angel, this fish looks much lighter. Geneticists have discovered that Black Lace Angels have one gene for black, and Black Angels have two such genes. This fish is Tom's smallest but bravest male and is ready to joust with either of the other two larger male Angels at any time. Tom and Nevin invite you to call during the show and talk about this fish or even better about your pet fish.
An Email about Planted Aquariums
Hello, this is Roland from San Antonio. Texas, and I listen to your show all the time. Just retired so now I home every Wednesday at 3 PM (CST) to tune in. I have kept aquariums for over 40 years now in various location throughout the world, spend 21 years in military. Since listening to one of shows about planted tanks three years ago, I been hook, line, and sinker into planted tanks. Right now I have seven plant tanks, ranging from 4 gallon to 55 gallons. All have compact fluorescent lighting, CO2 injection (DIY and pressurized systems, dry fertilization). Also just to take my experience with planted tanks to an higher level, I fully ventured into the world of ADA (Aqua Design Amano) with their smallest tank, the Mini-S. I have the complete system. A small fortune spend, but well worth it from the pure pleasure I get viewing this set up daily. I have inserted picture of my tank, and just want to said thanks for all the very good shows and pray and hope to hear from caller Heather and Dan, or any caller about planted aquariums. Best regards, Roland
Roland calls during the show and answers lots of questions about how he got started with planted aquarium, succeeded, and now cares for his planted aquariums. Lots of tips and details plus good places to buy equipment for planted aquariums.
