Fish in the News from Andy in the UK
Hi Tom and Nevin,
Its Andy from the UK here, I stumbled across this video today and thought it may be of some interest. Its an award winning film by Rob Stewart which starts off as a straight documentary about sharks but escalates into a thought provoking and quite upsetting piece on ocean ecology, poaching and conservation. Its quite long but well worth a watch. http://videosift.com/video/Sharkwater-Full-Documentary
Fish in the News from Tim in Columbus, OH
Pet shop owner fined £1,000 and told to wear an electronic tag ... for selling a GOLDFISH to a boy aged 14 ...
On Sunday, 03-28-2010, Tom traveled by car for about 2-hours, going east to the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which is the largest state park in California. This is the best time of year to visit. The temperature got up to about 80-degrees F., and after some recent rains the flowers were in bloom. Someone said this was the best bloom in 10 or 20-years!
Fish? Yes, about 200 small Pupfish live in the pond, shown above, by the visitor center. These Pupfish are native to the Ana-Borrego Desert, and the pond is meant to copy their natural environment. The pictures above show the pond and one pupfish, which is probably a female. Click nere to learn more about the park, the desert, and the fish.
Giant Woolly Ground Sloths
One of the primary goals of the park is keeping the area natural. They have a big problem with some invasive mustard plant, but it was a wonderful surprise to see this long extinct female Giant Woolly Ground Sloth with her baby on her back. Later Tom was dismayed to learn these Sloths and many other animals in the park were in fact sculptures made of rusted sheet metal. Still they're huge and lots of fun.

Tom's Tropheus moorii, named Tro.
Tom talks for a few minutes during this show about this fish and this picture, and why he likes it, even though it doesn't have much color. Tro has huge pectoral fins on each side of his body, and this picture shows off those fins. Also, you can see Tro's beautiful white buckteeth, and his bright eye looking right at you.
