A Red Eye Hifin Female Swordtails
A nice young Bala Shark
An unidentified Rasbora species
The name of this fish is unknown to us.
Maybe it's the Greater Scissortail Rasbora. This fish was a stowaway and Nevin will explain what that means during the show. Some folks have said yes this is the Greater Scissortail Rasbora, Rasbora caudimaculata, or a very close relative. But this fish is now about 9" long and that is much bigger than the maximum size for Caudimaculata, which is said to have a maximum of 7". If you know more about this fish, call the show sometime and talk about it.

Fish in the News from Robert in New Jersey
Tom & Nevin, Hope all the bugs and computers are up and running
for Wednesday’s show.
Robert in New Jersey calls and has some additional tips about using an automatic switch with a remote control to turn his Penguin Bio-Wheel Filters off, when he feeds his fish. Then Robert mentions feeding premium fish food from a jar that smells like garlic. It's just amazing the tips you hear on Pet Fish Talk about how to care for your fish!! ;^ }
Roland from San Antonio, Texas, calls and talks about his Discus Fish and his Dwarf Ram Cichlids, which have spawned several times in his aquariums. ;^ }
The Bailey Brothers
encourage YOU to call Pet Fish Talk
during the show and talk about your pet fish.
An Interesting Email from Myron from Iowa A few days after this show was posted, Myron from Iowa, a longtime listener to Pet Fish Talk, sent us an email ...
I also use remote controls on my aquarium, My setup uses what is called "X10" appliances.
My aquarium light is turned on thru a relay controlled by signals that go thru my home wiring to a controller relay with an antenna. The antenna accepts radio control from the remote control. This remote controls 16 relays or dimmers (for incandescent lamps). The remote also has channels to control up to 12 groups of 16 relays.
The system has been around a while and is fairly common. There is even a device that connects to a computer, called a firecracker, that emulates the remote control. And with this device I have set up a website that allows me to use the remote anywhere thru the internet.
I purchase these things from www.x10.com . Their website is very flashy, and expensive, but if you subscribe to their mailing list they provide special deals that are much more affordable.
With this program and another program that calculates the sunrise and sunset at any part of the world, My light comes on at sunrise and sunset in the Amazon basin.
The only problems I have had with this system is that the controller isn't strong enough to signal across the split phase of my house. The electricity entering the house is 3 phase 220 volt. Then it is split into two 110 volt systems. So half of my outlets are on one phase and half are on the other. The controller won't cross phases.
